International Conference on Urbanization and Global Environmental Change “Opportunities and Challenges for Sustainability in an Urbanizing World”
Event: The first Open Science Conference of the Urbanization and Global Environmental Change (UGEC) Project is an international effort to bring together scientists, practitioners, policy makers, and stakeholders to understand the multi-faceted interactions between urban areas and global environmental change. The conference seeks to build a forum for reflection, exchange of knowledge, experiences, lessons, ideas, and information, contributing to the creation of efficient strategies for urban sustainability. The structure and approach of the conference is specifically designed to foster dialogue among participants. Oral presentations and posters are encouraged to communicate the knowledge and lessons learned from research projects and practices.
The UGEC Conference will work closely with the Global Land Project (GLP) Open Science Meeting, held October 17-19. GLP is a joint research project for land systems for the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and the International Human Dimensions Programme (IHDP). Both conferences will be held back to back with one overlapping day, in which the two programs will focus on the themes surrounding the urban, land, and climate change interface.

2010 Global Mayors Forum
Event: The theme of the 2010 Global Mayors Forum is ‘High Growth Cities: Meeting the Challenges for Sustainability’. Some 1,000 distinguished guests from all over the world are expecting to attend the Forum. They are: 200 mayors, 500 top global investors, 200 top urban operators, 100 experts on urban development and dozens of officials from the UN.
The Global Mayors Forum aims at establishing powerful win-win cooperation, to enable the best of the Forum and enabling each part to get desirable benefits.
