Omar El Bahraoui
Former mayor of Rabat, Morocco

10 March 2008: Omar El Bharaoui was elected mayor of the Rabat city council in the 2003 Moroccan local elections, having previously been chairman of the Youssoufia urban commune in the city. He currently serves on the executive of the People’s Movement, the third largest political party, and is chair of the country’s local government association and vice president of the African branch of the United Cities and Local Governments organisation. He has also served as Director General of Local Authorities at the Ministry of the Interior. Omar El Bharaoui has nominated for the 2008 World Mayor Award.
