Julio César Pereyra
Mayor of Florencio Varela, Argentina

10 March 2008: Born in 1951 in the city of Gualeguaychú, Entre Rios, Julio César Pereyra is mayor of the Buenos Aires suburb of Florencio Varela and a member of the peronist Justicialist Party of current Argentine president Cristina Fernández Kirchner. Pereyra was elected as mayor in 2003 and re-elected in 2007.

He is also the current president of the Federation of Argentine Municipalities (FAM) since 2003 and the Federation of Latin American Cities, Municipalities and Associations (FLACMA) since 2005.

Florencio Varela forms part of the Buenos Aires Province, one of 134 divisions (partidos). The province is governed by former vice president Daniel Scioli, a member of the Justicialist Party, while the federal capital of Buenos Aires is currently governed by mayor Mauricio Macri of the centre-right Commitment to Change.
