Rafal Dutkiewicz
Mayor of Wroclaw, Poland

1 April 2008: Born in 1959 in the town of Mikstat, Rafal Dutkiewicz graduated from the Technical University of Wroclaw in applied mathematics in 1982 and also holds a PhD degree in mathematical logic obtained from the Catholic University of Lublin in 1986. He then taught at both of his alma mater and later attended the University of Freiburg in Germany. During this period he was a member of the banned Solidarity movement and later served as its secretary and president in Wroclaw. The mayor has been shortlisted for the 2008 World Mayor Award

He began a career in personnel selection in 1991 and built up one of Poland's largest headhunting organisations before heading up US company Ward Howell's Polish operation. Dutkiewicz was elected mayor of Wroclaw in 2002 and was re-elected in 2006, standing as an independent (though supported by both the Civic Platform and the Law and Justice parties) with almost 85 per cent of the vote.

In 2005 Dutkiewicz presented former US president George H.W. Bush with the city's Jan Nowak-Jezioranski Award for "his contribution in overthrowing Communism and regaining independence for Poland."

Dutkiewicz is married with two children.

Mayor Monitor allows you to rate the performance of your mayor More

How good is
your mayor?

City Mayors provides Mayor Monitor (MM) to allow residents and non-residents to rate the performance of mayors from across the world as well as highlight their ‘best’ and ‘worst’ decisions. Mayor Monitor uses the widely understood one-to-ten rating system, where '1' signifies an extremely poor performance and '10' ‘an outstanding one. In addition to rating mayors’ performances, citizens are invited to highlight the best and worst decisions by city leaders.

Over time, Mayor Monitor will provide a valuable track record of mayors’ successes and failures as well as their popularity among residents and a wider public. The results will be published on the City Mayors website and updated monthly.

Please rate your mayor now.
